Rock star, River Jackson, is back in his hometown of Glastonbury to open a cocktail bar… and the locals aren’t impressed.
Seductive Georgina is proving too hot to handle; band mate, Angelic Alice, is messing with his heart and his head; his mum is a hippie-dippy liability; his school friends have resorted to violence – oh, and his band manager, Lennie, AND the media are on his trail.
But River is armed with a magical Mexican elixir which will change the lives of the Three Chosen Ones. Once the Mexican wave of joy takes a hold of the town, he’s glad he didn’t lose his proverbial bottle.
Pity he hasn’t taken better care of the real one.

Q and A

What inspired the Glastonbury Cocktail Bar setting in this novel?
I grew up in Glastonbury, and as a teen/twentysomething, it was a town in desperate need of some decent nightlife! Your choices then were either the boho and unconventional (as it got), or cider drinking in the very working class pubs. I asked myself ‘What if Glastonbury had a cocktail bar in its High Street? How would that change the dynamics of the town? Who would go there, how might it bring people together/tear them apart?’ And once I started posing those questions, I got a little bit carried away and birthed me a book…

How does living in Andalucia influence your writing?
There’s something very magical about the quality of the light here. The sunrises and sunsets are ethereal, bathing the sea and the mountains in the most intensely dramatic hues of the rainbow. I think that definitely helps, but also the laidback way of life really seems to help me get in tune with my creative side.

What's your favourite cocktail?
I do love a Coco Loco or a Bahama Mama. I’m also a bit of a Del Boy Trotter as I’m partial to a Pina Colada! Basically, if it contains rum, it’s mine!

Meet the author

Isabella May lives in (mostly) sunny Andalucia, Spain with her husband, daughter and son, creatively inspired by the sea and the mountains. Having grown up on Glastonbury’s ley lines however, she’s unable to completely shake off her spiritual inner child, and is a Law of Attraction fanatic.
Cake, cocktail, and travel obsessed, she also loves nothing more than to (quietly) break life’s ‘rules’.

  2. Reading the interview here makes me realise how few cocktails I have tried in my life and that is something I need to be more explorative with. I tend to go with the drinks that are familiar to me :P

    1. Dave's a great cocktails fan, but I usually find them too sweet or they have too strong an alcohol taste. I'll stick with exotic tea blends :-)
