The Root Of Murder by Lauren Carr + #Giveaway

The Root Of Murder (A Lovers in Crime Mystery #4) by Lauren Carr
Published in America by Acorn Book Services on the 25th March 2019.

One of my 2019 New Release Challenge reads

Homicide Detective Cameron Gates learned long ago that there is no such thing as a typical murder case. Each mystery is special in its own right — especially for the family of the victim.

The homicide of a successful executive, husband, and father seems open and shut when the murder weapon is found in his estranged son-in-law’s possession. The circumstantial evidence is so damning that when her step-son, J.J. Thornton, agrees to act as the defendant’s public defender, he assumes his first murder case will be a loss. Only the report of a missing husband proves that this case is not as open and shut as it seems.

Strap on your seat belts for a wild ride in this mystery rooted in decades of deception that sprouts into murder.

I think that The Root Of Murder is Lauren Carr's most intricate Lovers In Crime mystery to date. (Although I'm reviewing the books here out of order to fit with blog tour dates, I did actually read the four stories in chronological order and my reviews of #2 and #3 will be up on Literary Flits soon!) Again we have Cameron and Joshua's personal storylines woven around those of the criminal investigation, but this case is quite different from the previous three mysteries in both its reach and its tone. I don't want to write too much detail here and risk inadvertently giving something critical away to visitors who have not yet read The Root Of Murder. Suffice to say that readers will need to really concentrate on all the clues if they want to crack this case before Cameron does!

There is a little less ice cream in this story than in previous installments and I'm still waiting for someone to take poor Admiral for a good walk. However Poppy and JJ's relationship has rapidly progressed to wedding bells which is lovely and Tracy spots an opportunity to use the celebrations for a double purpose. I felt the family really began to gel through this novel with their previous emotional distances being overcome. In some ways I felt that this gave The Root Of Murder a good sense of closure, although I am sure that Lauren will already be plotting another dark and devious crime for Cameron and Joshua to solve!

    1. Thank you, Gwendolyn! I designed it myself.

    2. I didn't know that the cover was your design. Great work!

  3. Your review is just about same feeling as I when I read it. Given that I have read Real Murder and The Root To Murder. I really do not want to give your followers or mine a giveaway anymore then you do. You love her books and I do you will want more.

    1. I've really enjoyed getting into this series and I think reading three of the books fairly close together helped me become strongly invested in the characters
